Developing Guidance for Engaging with and Managing Conflict in Street Space

Wed 4 Nov 2026 13:30 - 16:30 Metafora Studios, Barcelona, Spain - and online, 08014

As cities work to reallocate and redesign street space, conflicts often emerge. Building on the guidance developed in our project Conflicted Streets on engaging in conflict in street space transformation, we invite you to participate in a collaborative workshop to further develop these recommendations to maximise their usefulness in practice.

The workshop will bring together researchers from various DUT, Horizon Europe and nationally funded projects, as well as practitioners and policymakers to share their experiences and input to guidance for constructive conflict engagement in street transformation processes.

There will be presentations from the Urban Planning Institute of Slovenia on protests about proposals to manage parking in high density Yugoslav-era residential districts in Ljubljana; from Vision 5, Austria, about conflicts in streetspace transformation in Bodrum, Turkey, Brasov, Romania, and Bielefeld, Germany.  Finally Fredrik Pettersson-Lofstedt from the DUT project Conflicted Streets will present the project's draft guidelines for practitioners on engaging with and managing conflict in streetspace transformation.

Your insights and expertise are valuable to ensuring that the guidance is relevant, practical, and widely applicable. We look forward to an open and productive dialogue.

You can attend online, or in person - be sure to select the correct ticket type.  Registration does not however guarantee admission as places are limited; we will send you confirmation of your place and the final programme 2 weeks before the event.

We hope to see you there.
