World Cup Creative Writing Workshop

Multiple dates and times Valence House Museum, RM8 3HT

Laid back and friendly poetry, flash fiction and short story workshop commemorating and celebrating the 60th anniversary of 1966, Wembley, Bobby Moore, Sir Alf Ramsey and all that has followed. With an emphasis on how the local heroes of Barking and Dagenham contributed most to the historic World Cup win for the nation.

Incorporating artefacts, stories, history, scandals, memorable moments, highs and lows, facts and figures from 1966 and all the football that has followed.

Come along and celebrate the nation’s 2026 return to World Cup glory! (Or use this workshop as a chance of cathartic healing after the hope has simply hurt once more.)

All levels are encouraged to come along, and participants are very welcome to attend one or both of the events.

H. B. O’Neill, prize winning author of According to Mark, is a West Ham season ticket holder and writes the Local Flavour column in Write On! Magazine which often incorporates comment on the fortunes of both the Hammers and the Daggers.
