Climate Cafe
Looking for some Climate conversation?
Come and join Brighton's very own Climate Cafe, in it's special visit to the university campus during Climate Justice Week.
A climate cafe is a talking space in which you can freely share your thoughts and feelings about the planetary health crisis. It can be hard to talk about the climate emergency in normal day to day conversation with friends and family, so attending a cafe opens up that possibility.
It is an informal space that allows participants to overcome any concern or fear that they may about saying the wrong thing. It is also a chance to hear from others with differing viewpoints, perspectives and coping strategies. Together you are bearing collective witness to what is now unraveling across the world. By attending, you may develop a greater sense of solidarity, and compassion for yourself and others. Although some may choose to attend prompted by personal activism and understandable political frustrations, it needs saying that the cafe is not intended as a debating forum or personal soapbox.
The cafes are normally led by two facilitators who will share things of their own, as well as oversee the welfare of the group. Although you come and go to suit yourself in a regular cafe, there is an expectation to respectfully stay for the duration of a climate cafe.
