Tuesday, October 22|Forgotten Stages: The Lost Theatres of Vancouver

Vancouver has a fascinating history of theatres that are no longer around.  The Empress, Princess, Imperial, Columbia and Maple Leaf are just some of the theatre names that once graced Vancouver’s streets. Found along Main, Hastings, and Granville streets, these venues once hosted entertainment like Vaudeville, movies and stage shows; Join historians Tom Carter and John Atkin as they take us on a tour of the city’s early theatre history, exploring the venues and a few of the personalities that put Vancouver on the entertainment map.

About the Speakers:

John Atkin is a civic historian, author and heritage consultant. He offers an interesting and offbeat insight into the city’s architecture, history and neighbourhoods through a variety of programming. These combine his interests in urban planning and development, a love of architecture and a fascination for the curious.

Tom Carter is an painter and entertainment historian and serves on the boards of Vancouver Historical Society and the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, he is a former member of the Friends of the Vancouver Archives board
