Join us for the last Bricks and Brews for 2026 at the Penthouse Nightclub for an evening of iconic tales!
Founded in in 1947 by the Fillipone brothers Joe, Ross, Mickey and Jimmy, The Penthouse is a well-known cultural landmark in Vancouver that has now been operated by Danny Fillipone for the last 45 years.
Join us for an evening at The Penthouse Nightclub with Aaron Chapman, Danny Filipone, and Ben ‘The Sign Guy’ Jackson as they share how the legendary venue has shaped Vancouvers entertainment scene over the last 80 years.
The illustrated presentation will be hosted in the storied, and iconic venue. The ticket price includes both a 30 minute tour, a talk with Aaron, Ben and Danny, light refreshments and one welcome drink. Additional drinks will be available to purchase from the bar. Non-alcoholic options will also be available.
*Please note that this venue is 19+ and you are required to bring two pieces of ID, including one piece of government issued ID.
About the Speakers
Danny Filippone has been working at The Penthouse for over 45 years and has heritage in the original owners who date back to 1947. His involvement in the club started back in Expo 86 and has continued ever since. Danny has reinvented the club, brought it back to life and now has become one of Vancouver most historic landmarks in the city.
Aaron Chapman is a writer, historian, and musician with a special interest in Vancouver’s entertainment history and crime history. His books include Vancouver after Dark: The Wild History of a City’s Nightlife, Live at the Commodore, a history of the Commodore Ballroom, both of which have won the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award and Liquor, Lust, and The Law: The Story of Vancouver's Legendary Penthouse Nightclub. He was also one of the co-writers of Vancouver Confidential (Anvil Press). In 2020, he was elected as a member of the Royal Historical Society.
Benjamin Jackson can be found bartending at the Penthouse Nightclub in Vancouver where he's worked for over a decade, dreaming up new messages for the club marquee. In the day, he can be found outside the club with a box full of plastic letters. Most recently, he is the co-author of Sign of The Times: The Best of the Penthouse Marquee.
