Join VHF for a full day Professional Development for Educators!
Many historic places are visible in our streetscapes and neighbourhoods but often cultural histories and stories of resilience are lesser-known. What can we learn from the buildings, people, parks, monuments and place names around us? How do we connect the present with the past, and reshape the narratives around which students learn about local history?
We hope the full-day session will gain a better understanding of the cultural connections to heritage and history in Vancouver, in neighbourhoods across the city, and beyond.
Community-based speakers will share local heritage places of significance, historic legacies and personal experiences on: African-Canadian history, Chinese- Canadian history, civic history, Filipino-Canadian history, Japanese-Canadian history, and Musqueam First Nations history. Listen to their stories and engage in Q&A sessions. Follow-up activities will be presented after the speaker sessions and additional teaching resources will be shared.
All are welcome to join the event.
Details of how to join this webinar will be provided to registered participants. If you have not received the connection email two days before the webinar, please let us know at mail@vancouverheritagefoundation.org.
Please note that event cancellations require 4 weeks notice as most event and course expenses are incurred in the weeks immediately prior.
