For Jewish and Asian Heritage Months, the Cross Cultural Walking Tours (CCWT) celebrate the rich layered history of Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhoods: Chinatown, Downtown Eastside, Paureru-Gai, Jewish Strathcona and Hogan's Alley. This 2.5 hour multi-guided tour builds awareness of the contributions of Indigenous and early immigrants then, and bridges communities and cultures around the city now. Find out more on Facebook and Instagram @crossculturaltours or visit www.crossculturaltours.ca

We are generously sponsored by Vancouver Heritage Foundation and this year, the tour has guides from the following partner organizations (subject to change):

  • Binners' Project
  • Carnegie Community Centre
  • St. James Music Academy
  • Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall
  • Society of Architectural Historians - Marion Dean Ross/ Pacific NW Chapter
  • Punjabi Market Collective
  • Hogan's Alley Society
  • Wongs’ Benevolent Association

Our tours take place on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlil̓w̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.

Tour Details:

  • The tour is a 2.5 hour +/- outdoor activity that will require participants to navigate 4km of walking distance with a variety of terrain including a heritage building with steep steps! PLEASE NOTE: The route and stops are the same each date the tour is offered.
  • There is a maximum capacity of 25 people per tour. We ask that you please do not bring additional people who are not paid registrants and/or seek out the group on tour day in hopes of joining, as this will disrupt the tour.
  • Ticket includes free admission to the Chinatown Storytelling Centre (expires June 30, 2022).
  • Tickets are non-refundable, and registration is required and ID must match.
  • This tour is offered rain or shine. If raining, bring an umbrella.
  • Bring water, sunscreen, hat, sturdy walking shoes (closed shoes, not sandals), wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and a camera. We will be offering a snack from a local Chinatown bakery - this is not a meal - it is included as part of your tour. We encourage you to enjoy a meal before or after your tour to support local neighbourhood restaurants.
  • Washroom availability: mid-tour at MacLean Park; and end of tour at Mon Keang School. Please plan your washroom breaks in advance, leaving ample time to do so before the tour starts.
  • Photographs will be taken on each tour. If you do not wish to be in photos, please let the tour guide and fellow tour participants know at the very start of the tour (not at the end of the tour).

Location: Tours will start in Chinatown and end in Chinatown. Paid participants will receive the exact starting location upon registration.

COVID Protocol: We are monitoring provincial and Vancouver Coastal Health Covid protocols and will operate in alignment with them. We encourage mask-wearing for the safety and comfort of folks who are immunocompromised. We will send an email to participants closer to the date with the most up-to-date information.
