Heritage Lunch and Learn | Fall 2022

VHF’s Heritage Lunch and Learn series will continue in virtual format this fall on select Thursdays from 12pm to 1pm. Learn about the state of heritage and conservation projects in Vancouver today with experts in architecture and design, conservation, city planning and other related fields.

Tuesday, October 25th | Exploring the New Heritage Site Finder

Did you know that VHF has an interactive map of buildings and sites found on Vancouver's Heritage Register? Join VHF and SplitMango Media for a free lunchtime session from 12:00-12:45 pm to learn about the history of the project, explore all of the upgrades to the newly updated Heritage Site Finder, and discover the many ways you can use the map to explore heritage places in Vancouver.

Thursday, November 3rd | The little house that could: The conservation of the Coulter House within the HOUSS development

Join developer Joe Carreira, architect Taizo Yamamoto and heritage consultant Elana Zysblat as they share the story of this unconventional project, which they saw as an innovative solution to the challenge of preserving the history and built heritage of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, while appealing to the needs of a community known to be a catalyst of industry and innovation.

This new and unique strata office, commercial and industrial mixed-use building, developed by Conwest Group, boldly incorporates the 1901 heritage house that stood previously on the site as the focal point of its design.

This lunchtime talk will touch upon the complex decision and design process, which involved lots of engagement and consultation with stakeholders, the logistical challenges of moving, storing and RE-storing the heritage house off site, along with the quest to find relevant new uses and meaning for a modest old-timer house that dared to survive on a block that had long transformed into an industrial area.
