Description
Van Gogh House is a Georgian terrace house in Brixton in which Vincent spent a formative year of his life, now a site for artist residencies and an annual commission. A collection of objects unearthed during its renovation tell the story of the house, its famous tenant and other residents. The house is an important local heritage site, and underwent a major capital project in 2018 that took it from a derelict state to a sympathetic and award-winning working building. Today, artists sleep in Vincent’s bedroom and work in the garden studio, with the house opening part of the year for an annual commission in which one artist is given carte blanche to respond across the three floors of the property.
Private tour of house, including Vincent and his sister Anna’s bedroom, the garden where he sowed poppy seeds, the rooms where his landlady ran a small school or cooked food on the fireplace, the landlady’s bedroom, the contemporary kitchen extension built with a nod to Victorian materials, followed by lunch with a glass of wine.
Tickets £45 including lunch with a glass of wine, served in the kitchen or garden depending on the weather.
