Achieving more together
To successfully implement visionary projects, your team needs collective superpowers. The most important of these are "dancing with the dragons", i.e. dealing with challenges in a playful way, and "dreaming", the ability to tell yourself a new story about the world, your project and your role in it. Dragon Dreaming itself tells this new story: It is possible to realize big dreams, playfully, together and in harmony with yourself and nature.
The approach to collective project development is based on a cyclical processes that combines inner and outer change as a whole. The set of methods is also based on this understanding, leading groups to a shared awareness of collective vision, goals and approaches in the shortest possible time – and just as directly revealing their own limitations. In order to be able to integrate so many insights as a group, Dragon Dreaming offers practices that promote a culture of awareness, error-friendliness and playful cooperation.
Dragon Dreaming combines knowledge, wisdom and experience
John Croft and Vivian Elanta discovered the underlying pattern of Dragon Dreaming in the 1980s when they brought together their practical experience of environmental activism, development work and community projects, Paulo Freire's „pedagogy of the oppressed", further approaches to informal education and Kurt Lewins' "action research".
Gregory Bateson's "Living Systems" theory, and Joana Macy's experiential "Deep Ecology", among several others, have further informed the model and values. In addition, Dragon Dreaming is inspired by the cosmology and spirituality of the Noongar People of Western Australia: The connection to their land and all its beings, the cyclical understanding of time, and the essential importance of their own stories about their spirituality and cosmology, that is reflected in dance, art, song, celebration and in everything they do.
Dragon Dreaming can remind us, even and especially when creating with others and the world, to be in deep connection and cooperation with life itself.
