A concert of beautiful Lenten choral music...

Thursday 27 February 2025 sees the Vasari Singers return to a favourite concert venue: the beautiful church of St Bride’s in Fleet Street.

The achingly beautiful 10-part Lotti Crucifixus gives way to three sections (including the joyous ‘Et resurrexit’) from Bach’s matchless Mass in B minor. Poulenc’s Lenten Motets follow and the first half closes with the extraordinarily powerful Miserere by James MacMillan, a brilliant contemporary companion piece to Allegri’s famous Miserere. Works by two composers from the first part of the 20^th century fill the second half: Frank Bridge’s unjustly neglected and radiant A Prayer, and Gerald Finzi’s uplifting Lo, the full, final sacrifice with its soaring vocal lines and exquisite final ‘Amen’.
