How do you leave when everything you’ve ever known is telling you to stay?
And why would you want to?
Evelyn is the perfect 1950s housewife. But she’s suing Him in court for the most epic divorce imaginable. Heightened language and witty humour evoke rural Australia, ancient myth, and 21st-century religious trauma.
A surreal, semi-autobiographical allegorical drama which frames leaving the fundamentalist church as an escape from an abusive marriage, in a story ranging from the intimate to the transcendent.
Sensitively exploring religious and sexual trauma from a feminist point of view, Babies and Bathwater resonates with queer people who have experienced homophobic religion, women who have suffered in unequal partnerships, and anyone who is trying to f*ck the patriarchy.
After a work-in-progress run with A Pinch of Vault at The Glitch and award-winning runs at Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, Babies and Bathwater is ready to return to London.
