Fathiya Saleh - Work in Progress

Sun 21 Dec 2025 20:30 - 21:30 The Glitch, SE1 7AE

An unapologetically silly and soul filled hour about the youngest “eldest” daughter, God, grief, immigrant mums, middle class friends, football phases, therapy degrees you only use on your family, and learning to be yourself while holding everyone else together. Featuring audience confessions, jokes and a lot of emotional blackmail.

From growing up in a Somali-Yemeni household with eight people, losing a parent young, and becoming your mum’s unofficial husband (personal assistant, furniture builder, masseuse, solicitor and parking ticket fighter), this work in progress from Funny Women finalist Fathiya Saleh, promises questionable accents, funny tales and silly jokes about making her first middle class friend, trying to use her psychology degree to diagnose everyone, fun crowd work and a visual presentation.

A love letter to anyone who grew up with responsibilities, who’s navigating faith and identity in a world that's determined to misunderstand you and/or anyone who just wants to hang out with a room full of the nicest people!

Through it all, this hour is about finding ease in hardship, strength in responsibility, and joy where you least expect it. Come laugh, overshare, heal a little, and leave knowing that whatever you’re carrying, God gave you shoulders for a reason. Come on down bestie!
