Country singer Marcy Aurora is out of prison after 20 years for murder, and she's ready for a comeback. She has one night in a studio in Music City to record a new album, and she’s gonna sing her guts out and raise hell.
Marcy Aurora is a honky-tonk angel who was headed to the heights of country music fame when she committed a murder she doesn’t regret. Out of prison after 20 years, Marcy has one night in a studio in Nashville to lay down the tracks for a new album, even as she gets pissed off at a nosy reporter and fights with the sound engineer about what her real voice is now.
Midnight in Nashville puts you in the sound booth for a rollercoaster of live music and raw emotions. A rip-roaring, profane, funny, and heartbreaking new play by Lee Papa, “a tornado of a writer” (New York Times). Biz Lyon stars as Marcy and Catherine Mieses as Colleen, with Lyon singing and playing live original and old folk and blues songs.
The show premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2025, where The List gave it four stars and talked about its “brutal honesty”: “The everyday heartache of Lee Papa’s new play could be set to a million country numbers.” Another reviewer praised it for being about “a middle-aged woman defiantly finding her way back into the world… and that’s a tale that has resonance beyond its time and place.”
