Julie can’t sleep. Like really, she’s tried! It’s not the London heatwave or a bad case of late-night thriller-watching-induced insomnia keeping her up, but rather something much scarier: her husband's nasal cavity. He’s snoring. And the lure of AI (definitely not that thing called ChatGPT) begins to work its seductive powers. Is this a love story?
DeviAted (Work In Progress)
In her debut one-woman play (WIP), Peggy Holmwood explores the allure of AI in fixing it ALL. Like not just the grammatical errors in your emails’ (intended, lol). With what once began as an administrative weight lifted off Julie’s shoulders soon unravels into an intense affair with the very thing we're told not to use (I know you do, just admit it!).
Julie’s snoring-induced manic state ensures she is not alone on that stage. And I wonder who else you’ll meet? A teleshopping presenter? Her mother in the toiletries aisle? Dave?
Or, maybe, who you will be? With her husband’s choral beside her, the solution is already here and evidently clear — in the form of styrofoam earplugs. However, just shoving them in would be so terribly easy. And, although it is just the snoring making all the noise, I’m afraid it is not just the snoring she’s trying to block out.
