Come join us for a fun, playful acting workshop, as we delve into scenes from Shakespeare's 'As You Like It' (1599)! "Shakespeare Scene Club offers a relaxed space for actors to practice working with scenes from Shakespeare. We will spend the workshop playing with some scenes from 'As You Like It', Shakespeare's joyous romantic comedy.
Note: This workshop differs from our 'drop-in' workshops, as scenes will be cast in advance. There is still no expectation to learn any lines - this just means you will know which character you are playing beforehand.
Our workshops are completely practical: we get the scene up on its feet and experiment with it as much as possible, trying out different playing spaces, contexts, and objectives to see what discoveries we can make. No table work or textual analysis - just two hours of bashing the scene out in the space. Think of it less like a class, and more like a mini R&D.
The workshops are relaxed - you can pop out of the room whenever you need - and scripts are provided on the day. We will begin with a quick check-in, then get straight to working up the scenes. There is no expectation to be off book - just bring your creative energy and come ready to play!
This workshop will be facilitated by Jacob Freda.
Jacob (he/him) is an actor and director/writer based in London. He loves bringing new life to well-trodden texts and exploring Queer stories. He is very silly and is probably the last person who should be trusted with Shakespeare.
