Brighton Beach Memoirs (Staged Reading; Pay What You Will)

Brighton Beach Memoirs is one of Neil Simon's most famous, funny, and heart warming plays. Considered an autobiographical story of the American masters youth, the play follows young Eugene's story of his family, set during the depression times leading up to WW II. A young teenager coming of age, Eugene shares a crowded house with his older brother, parents, Aunt and two female cousins. As in every family trying to make it during this turbulent time in American history, there are conflicts with relatives living together, struggles with how to make ends meet, and fears of what is about to happen in the world. And the four younger family members are all trying to figure out what growing up means, leading to some hilarious discussions concerning sexuality and family relationships, during a time before sex-education when your information might come from an older sibling.... who may (or may not...) have fully correct information! The story does contain adult themes but also gives us a look into family relationships during this interesting time in our history. An interesting step in Neil Simon's growth into one of America's leading playwrights!
