The choral legacy of the Scandinavian composers is immence.
Bringing Gorecki's haunting Miserere to life has long been an ambition of ours, and it remains one of the best and most mesmerising examples of minimalism in the canon. Written in the time of Solidarnosc shipyard protests, it echoes strongly today.
Contrasting it with Tchaikovsky's soaring masterpiece from The Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, The Hymn of the Cherubims, shows the range and beauty the contributions from Nordic composers.
Some simple classics from the likes of Grieg and Sibelius remind us of the sheer beauty here, while contemporary composers such as Arnesen, Esevalds, and Gjeilo have more than picked up the baton and carried it with aplomb. From Northern lights to stellar silent beauty - we will transport you back to the fjords.
As ever, '24' has some fun with the genre too, and let's face it, a nod to the Vikings and shield maidens is essential if you are to explore the full breadth of the contribution Scandinavians have made to the choral landscape.
We have our fair share of shield maidens in our midst - so join us, and them - for an evening you won't forget.
