The Domestic Abuse Forum is pleased to host a One Day Conference, "What Does Domestic Abuse Look Like on the Isle of Man?"

The day will focus on raising awareness about domestic abuse, with a particular focus on Coercive Control and how this presents across different types of abuse and various organisations/services on the Island.  

The day is aimed at professionals working in agencies we work in collaboration with, alongside representatives of corporate and other organisations to highlight the work of the multi-agency Domestic Abuse Forum.

The running order for the day will be:

9am:     Registration & Coffee

9.30am: Welcome from Jane Poole-Wilson MHK, Minister for Justice and Home Affairs

9.45am: Opening presentation about Domestic Abuse, with a focus on Coercive Control from Lorna Trevethan, CEO of Victim Support Isle of Man and Chair of the Domestic Abuse Forum.

10.30am: Coffee Break

For the remainder of the day, delegates will be split into 6 groups and attend 6 interactive workshops on the following:

10.50am: Two Workshop Sessions

  • The work of the Police Protecting Vulnerable People Team
  • Financial Matters including Financial Abuse - Salvation Army Debt Management Service
  • Space4Action - Own My Life Course and Awareness Training
  • Education, Children's Services (MASH) & The Children's Centre
  • Addressing Coercive Control and the impact of addiction on the Children and the Family - Motiv8 & The Children's Centre
  • Adult Safeguarding including Elder Abuse

12.10pm Lunch

1pm: Two Afternoon Workshop Sessions

2.20pm Tea Break

2.40pm: Final Two Workshops

4pm: Q&A and closing address

4.30pm: Conference closes

We will circulate a Slido link ahead of the day as well as a QR code on the day so that delegates can ask questions ready for the closing session.

This is a free to attend event.  Lunch sandwich bags will be provided to delegates .  

Tea, Coffee and Biscuits are kindly being provided by Mother's Union who will also have volunteers attending to assist on the day.

In order to attend you will need to register for tickets, and please only sign up if you are able to attend as these events are usually popular and tickets are limited.
