VMAC Zouk Summer Weekender!
August 19th - 22nd, 2022

This weekender is about leveling up your dance, from head to toe with our guest visting instructor Jessica Lambdon from New York City.

Start the weekend Friday evening by exploring the basics and fundamentals of Zouk. Perfect for Zouk Curious dancers to get a lot of information in a short amount of time. Learn to dance the opposite role and gain valuable insight on what the other half of the dance experiences, or simply brush up on your fundamental movements! Stay and dance with us at the Friday Social! (Included in your beginner pass)

The Summer Intensive will be focused on incorporating movements and styling from the root dance of Brazilian Zouk, Lambada! Portland is blessed to have the beautiful Unicorn Jessica visiting us from New York City where she is responsible for bringing Neo Lambada to the forefront of the Zouk dance scene. 

On Saturday, explore creative variations and combinations of movements taught in the PDX Zouk Curriculum, as well as new content! This will be followed by a workshop of Neo Lambada movements that create a new texture and movement pattern to your Brazilian Zouk dancing; this workshop will be taught by Jessica Lambon, our famous Unicorn Zouk Dancer! 

Join us for the evening class before our Saturday night social for a fun, action packed class taught by Chris, Deblin & Jessica together!

Sunday workshops are still TBD; however Jessica will be teaching one workshop & Deblin & Chris another!

On Sunday take advantage of hearing the follow theory and voice come to life with Jessica, where followers are showed where they can express themselves within the dance! Followed finally by an energetic and exciting Sunday workshop combining elements of the whole weekend taught by 

We’ll end the weekend by partying at the VMAC Sunday Social!

Friday - August 19th

6:00PM - 9:00PM: Beginner Zouk Immersion

Start the weekend Friday evening by exploring the basics and fundamentals of Zouk. Perfect for Zouk Curious dancers to get a lot of information in a short amount of time. Learn to dance the opposite role and gain valuable insight on what the other half of the dance experiences, or simply brush up on your fundamental movements! This three hour intensive will be taught by Deblin McKnight & Chris Matthews.

Stay at VMAC for our Friday night social!

7:00PM - 9:00PM: Followers Styling Choreography

Join the Unicorn Jessica for a 2 Hour Styling Technique Training & Choreography! This will focus on opportunities for Followers to shine, learn ways to move and express and finally, to possibly showcase and perform at the Saturday Night Social with Jessica (performance optional, not required)! While this is a choreography, the goal is to use structured movement patterns to increase body awareness and improve technique.

Saturday - August 20th

AFTERNOON

1:00 - 3:00 pm (Intermediate): Creative Combinations of Intensive Track Movements - Deblin, Chris

In this workshop, you’ll learn unique and exciting ways to transition between movements you already know, topped with a few bonus movements and candy! Create combinations of variations that will add another dimension to your dance.

3:30 - 5:30 pm (Level 2): Neo Lambada - Jessica (Assisted by Chris)

Add texture to your Brazilian Zouk by implementing Neo Lambada!

EVENING

9:00 - 10:00 pm (Open Level): Swapping & Stealing

Learn how to swap and steal during the dance; how to gain permission, how to enter, and how to keep the flow going!

10:00pm - ??: Saturday Night Social!

Sunday - August 21st

1:00 - 2:30 pm (Level 2): High Energia Movements (Deblin & Chris)

Let's Move It! High Energy Moves to travel around the dance floor and infuse you and your partners experience with Energia!

3:00p - 4:30 pm (Intensive): More Neo Lambada (Jessica)

Explore different realms of Neo Lambada and add them to your Brazilian Zouk repertoire with the Unicorn herself, Jessica!
