Are you aware of your responsibilities when it comes to Safeguarding? Did you know that the Charity Commission return asks specific questions on safeguarding? Join us for this essential Safeguarding Children and Adults in your setting course. Expect an engaging and interactive session allowing for discussion and enhanced understanding of the role of staff, trustees and volunteers in keeping people safe.

*Please note, there is a charge of £40 per person. VAAC is subsidising this training, however we recognise that this may be difficult for some organisations. Please contact kate.clarke@vaac.org.uk to discuss further.

Content will include:

  • Define abuse and neglect
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms that may indicate the abuse of a child
  • Understand the difference between safeguarding over and under 18’s
  • Respond appropriately to suspicion or knowledge that a client may be at risk of harm
  • To deal appropriately with disclosures and gain confidence in handling concerns
  • To provide information on the legal context and inter-agency framework
  • To promote a proactive approach to safeguarding

About the Trainer:

Mel Parr has been delivering Safeguarding and Child Protection training for over 18 years, working in children's and youth settings in both statutory and voluntary sectors. With a wealth of up to date knowledge and experience as Designated Safeguarding Lead in many settings, Mel now runs Lymley Wood CIC, set in an ancient woodland in East Sussex and delivers Forest School, HAF holiday clubs, school residential and day trips for all ages. As well as specialism in working with SEND children, Mel understands what needs to happen to keep children and young people safe in outdoor environments. Current clients include: London Youth, Kidscape, London Learning Consortium, East Sussex County Council, Brighton Community Works.

Refreshments will be provided, but please bring along a packed lunch.

Parking: There is pay for parking nearby in St Martins car park and some free on street parking around Littlehampton.

Terms and Conditions
This event is open to members and registered partners. Please contact us if you would like to join VAAC. We offer 2 places per organisation and if any further places are required we hold these on a waiting list and organisations will be informed nearer the time if there are spaces available. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please de-register on Ticket Tailor or let us know via email. Our events are normally fully booked so if you let us know you are no longer able to make it we can open your space up to another organisation, who may not otherwise be able to attend.
