Sacrificial Offerings: a Bottoming-ish Workshop with fuoco

VoxBody is always thrilled to welcome fuoco back to the studio; this will be her seventh visit!

Join fuoco for a performance event with Blue on 9/18, IMPROVISATIONAL TYING on 9/19, and SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS on 9/20. Saturday and Sunday are stand alone workshops and can be attended individually or for the full weekend!

SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS: A BOTTOMING-ISH WORKSHOP

This workshop explores the collaboration between bottom and rigger, with an emphasis on the ways that bottoms contribute to rope scenes in subtle and not so subtle ways. In this workshop we aim to trouble the binary of "active" and "passive" bottoming, and instead explore the numerous offerings that live on the spectrum within and between these two modes.

This workshop will explore release/surrender as an intentional bottoming-mode that also requires skill and effort, and we'll consider what conditions are necessary for surrender to be accessed. We'll discuss how we can communicate, through our bodies, ideas and permission to explore uncharted territory together.

The workshop will conclude with a (in fuoco's opinion) fun-to-bottom-in sequence allowing for a more substantive exploration of the ideas presented throughout the day.

Prerequisites:
This workshop is best suited to attendees who are interested in growing their capacity to release in ropes, however, there is no requirement for how to be in ropes throughout the day. However you show up and whatever your body opts into is welcome and correct.
The majority of the day will consist of technically simple exercises, requiring tops to be familiar with locking uplines.

The final exercise of the day will be a transitional suspension sequence, and in order to participate in that tops should be familiar with simple transitional techniques. Bottoms should be at least intellectually aware of the difference between circulation restriction and nerve compression, and feel comfortable communicating through stress. However, attendees are welcome to utilize that time to explore the concepts presented in the day within the context of a scene that feels more approachable to them.

* Each attending pair will be tying on a bamboo point. If you prefer to tie on multiple single points instead, be sure to bring all the gear you need (straps, carabiners and/or plates).

* There will be a one hour lunch break during this workshop. You are welcome to stay in the studio to eat or head out. Exact timing will be determined once the workshop is underway.

* Doors open at 9:30am / class starts at 10am (please allow for parking and time to settle in so we can start on time!)

* Tea and coffee and light snacks will be available throughout the day.

About the presenter:

fuoco (she/her) began her rope journey as a bottom in Phoenix in 2012 and shortly thereafter moved to London, where much of her early rope learning happened. Upon moving back to the US, she began presenting at conferences and intensives around the country, while regularly returning to Europe to further her education. Her career as a bondage practitioner, teacher, and performer grew alongside her career as a professional acrobat and movement specialist. She's trained extensively in partner acrobatics, contortion, and hair hanging, and through these disciplines has developed a keen sense of how to explore intensity in sustainable ways and what it means for two bodies to be in conversation with one another. In 2023 she joined Shibar Study as Director of Education and has been thinking about shibari education full time since.
She believes that kink is inherently political, and strives to bring her politics, values, and an accountability for those values into her teaching spaces. She offers private lessons and sessions out of Imprint Studio in downtown Northampton, MA.
