Somatics for Rope with Margherita Tisato

Wed Jun 15, 2022 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM 4120 Martin Luther King Jr Way Oakland, CA, 94609

We are thrilled to welcome Margherita Tisato (New York) to VoxBody!

Join us for a class on somatics for rope that will include lecture and discussion and time for attendees to explore exercises, with and without rope!

"Somatics" is an umbrella term that describes techniques that address the body first. In this experiential workshop, Margherita will share some principles of somatic movement, as well as nuggets of information she discovered in her two decades of somatic practices. Through the main tools of grounding and breath, we will investigate our felt experience in rope to develop sensory options to guide us.

The invitation is to look at the interconnectedness of form or external shape, and feeling or internal landscape, and how we can take ownership of our own experience through both.

This workshop is for any and all people who are interested in exploring their own way of being in rope, and for riggers who are looking to understand how rope bottoms might process their time in rope. Any amount of experience is appropriate, and no movement background is necessary.

There will be exercises for attendees to do that can involve rope, but don't need to. Bring a few lengths of rope if you have them (VoxBody also has loaner rope for classes).

Tickets are sold individually. There will be a partnering component, which can also be done solo, but connecting is encouraged: feel free to bring a friend if that's a better option, or make one on-site!

A note from VoxBody about pairing up with new folks in class:

* Remember that exercises can be done partnered or solo, and that there need not be any pressure to pair up with someone if you would prefer not to.

* VoxBody offers no guarantees or predictions as to the make-up of class attendees in terms of those who will come paired up and those who will come solo. Please manage your expectations and come with curiosity and an open-mind!

* When pairing with a new friend please keep in mind your consent practices and our studio etiquette practices. (well, keep these practices always in mind, but especially when meeting a new person!)

About Margherita:
I see myself as a dancer, teacher to teachers, movement enthusiast and a passionate changemaker.
My mission in sharing information and experiences with others is to soften the dichotomy between body and mind, to investigate visceral sensations in order to create emotional resilience, through the main mediums of embodiment, curiosity and dialogue.
I facilitate a range of movement experiences spanning from Trauma Informed yoga and somatic movement to dance, Butoh and body suspension; my educational offerings include experiential workshops in anatomy, pain science, embodiment and trauma theory and take place in a variety of environments, from colleges to prisons. I draw from decades of studies in dance, Butoh, yoga, somatic and developmental movement, meditation, anatomy and kinesiology, shibari and flesh hook suspension, and my offerings are informed by all my practices and interests, including seemingly less embodied practices such as poetry, metaphors, neuroscience and music .
I am also a performer whose work aims at letting audiences into my process through shared intentions and vulnerability, often in intimate settings where the journey through emotions and heightened senses takes the foreground over mastery.
