See it, Say it, Do it (comics/graphicnovels)
See it, Say it, Do it takes inspiration from comics and graphic novels to create brand new pieces of comic artwork. Coming up…
September 6th – Julie Doucet
September 20th – Chris Ware
10:30 – 12:45 UK time
If you'd like to come along but can't make it, you can select the ticket marked 'recording' and I'll send you a recording of the prompts.
See it: Let's take a look, shall we?
Say it: Describe what you notice. Is it content or form? Is it how you feel? What makes you curious?
Do it: Have a go! Prompts provided.
While Julie Doucet and Chris Ware produce vastly different visual and emotional experiences for the reader, they both really do know how to fill a page! One could see them and say that Doucet’s panels are all packed in, while Ware’s are all spread out…what would they be like to do?
Firstly, we will copy! Even if you copy as concisely as you can, it won't be the same, and there will be something unique to you in there. What will it be? Building on this, you will produce something that is more of your own creation.
This is a great class for anyone who wants to start a drawing practice, get into creating their own comics, or wants to shake their current artistic practice up a bit. Or, simply an opportunity to try something out with other people in a friendly space. It's also be a really good way to appreciate the craft of comics, and delve into its multi-faceted wonder. Bring whatever materials you want to work with - if they're different to the art work we look at, that'll just make it interesting!
You do not need to be familiar with Doucet or Ware to attend this class.
Zoom link and art work samples will be sent to you the day before.
