Wanderers of Colour Lake District Hiking Weekend 2026
Join us for a weekend of hiking in the Lake District! We'll be staying on the banks of Lake Windermere, exploring some of the beautiful landscapes in and around Ambleside and taking on a mix of walking routes across the weekend.
Our main Saturday hike will be a challenging full day, and we'll close out the weekend on Sunday with a gentler hiking and ferry trip around Lake Windermere.
This is an active hiking weekend and is not suitable for complete beginners. Attendees should have some previous experience of longer hikes and be comfortable with sustained uphill and downhill walking and uneven, rocky terrain.
Accommodation and food for the weekend are included in your ticket.
Before purchasing a ticket please read the full details in this information pack.
Cost
- Bursary ticket: £0 + £50 travel bursary
- Standard ticket: £125 + bf
This trip is part of the YHA Festival of Walking. Thanks to YHA and Wanderers of Colour donations, we have been able to put on this trip at a heavily subsidised rate.
Registration
Presale tickets go on sale 10am Tuesday 8th September. These are reserved for our WoC WhatsApp group members.
General sale will open 11am Tuesday 8th September.
Please note spaces are limited and may sell out during the presale.
You are only allowed to buy one ticket at a time.
There are some demographic questions in the sign-up to help us ensure we are reaching as many people as possible. This information will be anonymised.
Please note that the basket timer runs out between 7–30 minutes. Please make sure to read all trip details in the information pack so you're prepared when you get to checkout.
During checkout, you'll also be asked about your hiking experience, dietary requirements and travel arrangements, including whether you are able to drive and transport other attendees.
As we will be relying on volunteer drivers for transport to and from the Lake District and to our Saturday trailhead, passenger and driver arrangements will be coordinated by WoC ahead of the weekend. Passengers may need to travel to a meeting point agreed with their allocated driver and will be expected to contribute towards fuel costs.
Driver Tickets
We need drivers to support attendees with transportation to and from the Lake District and for our Saturday hike. As this is a limited space trip drivers get first access to tickets. Driving Applications are OPEN NOW and will remain open until 10am 2nd September. To apply please go to our Drivers Application Form.
Bursary Tickets
We have up to 2 bursary tickets available for members with no/low incomes, covering the ticket and travel costs. Application are now open. For more information please go to the bursary application form.
These tickets are allocated based on honesty. We do not ask for proof. If you can afford to pay the Standard Ticket price, please do, so bursary tickets go to those who otherwise could not afford to attend.
We make no profit from our events, so the price of the Standard Ticket reflects the cost of the trip, which is made possible by the hard work of our volunteer team.
If you receive a travel bursary, please make sure to keep any travel receipts. After the event, you will need to email Wanderers of Colour with your receipts and complete a reimbursement form.
If you have any more questions, please contact us.
