Building Strong Foundations
Strong foundations matter. When foundational knowledge is carefully prioritised and sustained across phases, children are ready to access the full curriculum with independence and confidence.
Building Strong Foundations is a three-part leadership programme designed to help schools secure accurate and fluent reading, writing and mathematics and prevent gaps from widening over time.
Rooted in research evidence and national guidance, the programme supports leaders to align curriculum, teaching and assessment so that foundational knowledge is built early and strengthened year after year.
By the end of the programme, leaders will be able to:
- Articulate the foundational knowledge pupils need at each phase
- Evaluate how effectively it is secured and sustained
- Align curriculum, pedagogy and assessment
- Prioritise support for children most in need
- Strengthen coherence from Reception to Year 6
- Prioritise high-impact, manageable improvements
