Event Topic:
Improving public health and educational opportunities through access to clean water and sanitation in Tanzania.

Date: Monday, 2 September
Time: 7:30 am – 10:00 am (seminar starts at 8:30)
Location: Operaterassen, Operakällaren, Karl XII:s torg 111 52 Stockholm

Why Tanzania?

Tanzania faces a significant challenge in providing clean water, particularly in its remote regions. Contaminated water and the absence of clean water in schools and healthcare facilities have led to severe health problems for many children. Despite progress, a large portion of the Tanzanian population still lacks access to safe, reliable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. These are basic human rights and are crucial for the health and well-being of communities. Currently, 79% of Tanzania’s 61.7 million people, half of whom are women, have access to basic water services.

Upcoming Project

Hanang District, Manyara Region, Tanzania

The Manyara region is one of the most impoverished areas in Tanzania, with some of the lowest rates of WASH access, particularly affecting girls and women in schools and healthcare facilities. In the local school, which serves 500 children, the absence of clean water has led to widespread diarrhea and fluoride poisoning, resulting in serious dental and skeletal problems. The lack of water and proper toilet facilities also forces girls to miss school during menstruation and discourages female teachers from working there due to safety concerns.

WaterAid

WaterAid is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere. To achieve our goal, we work with our supporters, partners and local communities. Read more: wateraid.se
