Bringing everyone into content design with Calvin Lau and Imran Hussain

Calvin and Imran talk about what it's like to work on a multidisciplinary service team made up of several squads of developers, designers, along with other disciplines.

As part of setting good practices and meeting the needs of service teams across government, our team needs to publish many types of content. Our team also maintains an open-source community of contributors, keeping them informed through good comms. Staying on top of all of this can be a challenge for a sole content designer.

We'll talk about how we plan to instil good content practices and upskill team members. We want to bring a collective understanding amongst our team about what makes good content.

Calvin Lau, senior content designer, GOV.UK Design System

Calvin is a senior content designer at the Government Digital Service, working on the GOV.UK Design System Team. He looks after guidance that helps teams working on digital public services make good design, tech and accessibility decisions for their users.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Calvin has worked as a content designer at Transport for London and in related roles at the London School of Economics and marketing technology agency DigitasLBi.

Imran Hussain, community designer, GOV.UK Design System

Imran is a community consultant with over 10 years experience building communities across different sectors. He believes communities can be a force for good in society and loves working with communities that have a positive impact on public life. 

Imran is currently a Community Designer at Government Digital Service, a department in the UK Government. He works on creating the right conditions for a community to thrive around the ever-popular GOV.UK Design System.
