Unlock the power of storytelling in improv!
Narrative Made Easy is a fun, engaging in person workshop designed for improvisers who want to build confidence in creating compelling stories on the spot.
Led by experienced improviser and We Are Improv founder Katy Bateson, this class focuses on the essentials of narrative structure, character development, and emotion led scenes. Learn techniques to create rich, dynamic stories without feeling overwhelmed, and discover how to keep audiences hooked from start to finish.
This course emphasizes the heart of great storytelling: authentic character relationships. You’ll learn to trust your natural storytelling instincts and create meaningful connections between characters, allowing narratives to flow effortlessly without the need for complicated formats. Instead of worrying about plot mechanics, you’ll focus on what truly engages an audience—honest, relatable interactions and stories that unfold organically.

As a dedicated improviser, she founded We Are Improv in Lancaster, UK in 2011, a company that went on to perform at renowned festivals including Improv Fest Ireland, ImproFest UK, and the Bristol Improv Festival. After having her 2 children Katy switched her focus from performing to teaching, creating a supportive and encouraging online community.

Her expertise lies in narrative long form, with a particular focus on creating improvised plays. Katy’s past shows include The Nearly Famous Five, a playful homage to Enid Blyton’s works, and Four Walls, a 50-minute monoscene where three actors remain onstage until the precise moment the clock strikes zero.
Her creative approach and dedication to narrative storytelling make her a prominent figure in the improv community.
