"We Call Each Other" Screening + Discussion
"We Call Each Other" Screening + Discussion
You're invited to a Community Screening + Discussion of the short film "We Call Each Other," written & directed by Sarah Oberholtzer. Join us for a screening and a post-show conversation with artist and organizer Alycia Kamil.
The film is the first installment in an anthology-format short film series that envisions a reality where care and forgiveness replace punishment and containment. Through the cultivation of love-based experiments, each story features characters who grapple with how to respond to instances of harm and crisis. The film team is now in development for the second film in the series, entitled "We Need Each Other," which revolves around a moment of domestic violence.
In creating the series, Writer/Director Sarah O. facilitated an Abolitionist Writers Room of 5 abolitionist organizers and creatives who, together, created the world in which the films take place. Our guest for the evening, Alycia Kamil, was a member of that writers room. Alycia & Sarah will join us in a conversation about what the writers room was like, how the group built the process together, and any lessons learned in building new worlds that center care.
