The Dredging 101 - “Basics of Dredging, Dredged Material Management and Environmental Considerations” course has been developed. It is provided exclusively by the Western Dredging Association (WEDA) to help anyone interested in learning about the basics of dredging and dredged material and environmental considerations in an easy, enjoyable, and efficient manner.

Who Should Attend?
The course is ideally suited for those not involved in dredging for a significant portion of their regular daily work or who have had specific schooling in dredging. Individuals who deal with dredging occasionally or somewhat frequently as part of their work and need to have an excellent working knowledge and understanding of dredging will benefit from this course.
Registration:
WEDA is offering this Dredging 101 Course at the IMX show as part of our mission to share knowledge and information about dredging. Because WEDA is a non-profit organization that aims not to make money but to share information, WEDA is offering this course at a low cost of $150. You MUST enroll in this course separately from your Inland Marine Expo (IMX) registration. IMX registration is not mandatory to participate in the Dredging 101 course.
About the Instructor:
Dr. Don Hayes will present the Dredging 101 course. Dr. Hayes worked as a Research Environmental Engineer at the U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center from 1978-1991, then again from July 2018 - October 2021, when he retired. Between 1991 and 2018, he held multiple academic appointments, including Chair of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and Director of the Institute for Coastal Ecology & Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Hayes earned BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University in Civil Engineering and a PhD from Colorado State University in Environmental Engineering/Water Resources Planning & Management. Dr. Hayes is a member of the WEDA Board of Directors and a member of the WEDA Environmental Commission. He is a licensed professional engineer in 3 states (LA, MS, NV), a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists, and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dr. Hayes currently provides consulting and educational services related to environmental aspects of dredging, dredged material management, and beneficial use through The Dredging Professor LLC.
