What can I expect?
A welcoming and celebratory event filled with opportunities for local families of all ages and backgrounds to share and learn more about each other...
- Drop in arts and crafts: Create your own family flag in your own time and with support and a selection of materials.
- *NEW*Mehndhi (henna): In addition to having your hands decorated with mehndhi designs, you can join a relaxed supported workshop supporting you to apply it to yourself and others.
- Piñata making workshop: Limited spaces for this guided workshop so don't forget to book your slot!
- North Indian singing and sitar: Listen to some beautiful sounds and why not sing along too.
- Chill & Chat: Take inspiration from cultural items designed to provoke interest, memories and conversation.
- "Keeping Languages Alive" workshop: Share experiences and gain tips on how to keep your mother tongue alive at home.
- Our Kitchen: Pot luck of culturally significant foods supplied by families and a meal provided by local caterers.
- *NEW* Family Portraits: Have your family portrait taken by Suga of "One Day with Suga". Feel free to dress in national/cultural dress and bring an item/prop that means something to your family!

As this is a family event, adults are only admissible with other family members.
What shall we wear?

Can I bring anything?

If you bring food along, it would be great if you could note allergens before arrival but you can also do so at the event. Allergens: Avocado, Celery, Dairy, Eggs, Gluten (i.e contains wheat, rye, barley, oats etc), Nuts, Sesame, Soya.
Who is behind this event?
This event will be taking place at Good Shepherd Studios (a part black-owned business) in Leytonstone and is organised, hosted and facilitated by members of the following Waltham-Forest based grassroots organisations:
- We Flock CIC: A not-for-profit whose purpose is to bring together the local community to share, develop and celebrate cultural and creative interests at Good Shepherd Studios and surrounding areas whilst combatting isolation.
- GEM Mamas: A group providing a safe place for the GEM community to share, meet, support each other whilst alleviating isolation.
- POC Parents Group: Originally set up by a mum who identified with a need to meet up with parents who identify as POC and those with shared lived experiences to connect with and support each other.
Big thanks to Waltham Forest Council for funding this event as part of the Fellowship Fund.
