Cult Clash: Zombies!

Waltham Forest Cinema Project presents a new event championing the best in cult cinema, decided by you, the audience! At Cult Clash, three passionate film fans try to convince you that THEIR favourite should be the one you pick in a notable cult movie subgenre. Then we vote and the winner is screened!

Join us on Friday 25th September for the first in a regular event pitting films, film lovers and Powerpoints against each other.

“Kill the brain and you kill the ghoul!”

Our first topic is ZOMBIES! A creeping figure of dread, these walking corpses were disinterred from Haitian folklore. Admirably adaptable as a metaphor, the genre runs from grimly claustrophobic to frenetically comic. But which is the best zombie film?!

Three films enter the arena, but just as in Highlander… there can be only one!

Our three clashers this time – all amazing, passionate film fans and lovers of cult movies – are...

• Sarah Cleary, who regularly programmes as Funeral Parades Presents
• Kat Haylett, who programmes as Ecstatic Truths
• Kareyni Davies, who programmes as Backronym Film
  

They've got just five minutes to convince you that their film is the one we should watch tonight, using only charm and Powerpoint slides to win you over before we vote.

We will be running a bar during the event with beers and wines from Waltham Forest suppliers Gravity Well Brewing and Renegade Wines. Soft drinks also available. We will also be selling tajín popcorn and other snacks. 

With the support of Good Shepherd Studios volunteers, staff and community, we are able to offer some free tickets to each cinema screening. These are 'pay what you can' tickets, no questions asked.

Please note all three films are rated 15. 

Rules

• All film choices are kept under wraps until the night, but we'll be offering hints on our Instagram page.

• Proponents have five minutes to advocate for their film. We will be strict with the buzzer!

• In the event of a tie, we eliminate one film and re-vote!

• Proponents can use a visual presentation (or not), but no clips allowed

• Proponents must talk up their own film, rather than talk down others!

• This is an inclusive event and we operate a safe(r) spaces policy. Art is subjective and there is no 'best' in any category. Don’t be an idiot and we’ll get along just fine. There is no need to defend the genre with terminal intensity!
