Uyghurs are an ethnic group that resides in East Turkestan, in Central Asia. Their way of life is severely threatened, and we invite you to learn more about how Uyghur people in diaspora, particularly the women, have been at the forefront of preserving their culture against all odds.
Please join us for an insightful panel, facilitated by Saltanat Bora (teacher & community organiser). The panellists are Eldana Muhtar, co-founder of the highly successful TWIICE Boutique, Nisa Abraham, from the Uyghur Language School, and Patime Abdulghafur, writer, poet & Geoscience PHD candidate. The panel will be followed by a dance from Dilnigar Alim & buffet dinner provided by Silk Road Uyghur Restaurant. The buffet menu* will be:
Rice Pilaf, Ding Ding (vegetarian version - a hearty fried noodle dish that is cooked with a scrumptious tomato sauce with peppers), and Goosh Nan (meat pie) and salad. These dishes have gluten.
A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Shukr Foundation, a charity that is providing support to Uyghurs in exile.
Thank you to the City of Parramatta for making this event a possibility.
*Apologies, we can't cater to everyone's dietary requirements
