Join the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Scotland and Future Economy Scotland to find out what the Scottish public think about wealth inequality and wealth taxation - and how the Scottish Government could use tax reforms to support a just transition.
Future Economy Scotland will present findings from their recent report, Funding Scotland’s Future: Tax Reform for a Just Transition. The report sets out how Scotland could use its tax powers to fund public services and a just transition through a package of progressive tax reforms designed to raise significant additional revenue while protecting low- and middle-income households.
Alongside this, Wellbeing Economy Alliance Scotland’s will be sharing the findings from its latest research, Sharing our Wealth, which will be published shortly before the event. Be among the first to learn about new insights into how people understand wealth, fairness and contribution, based on a Scotland-wide survey and focus groups. WEAll Scotland’s findings show widespread concern about wealth inequality, strong support for taxing the wealthiest, and meaningful openness to progressive reform when it is fair and clearly linked to public benefit.
This webinar will provide an opportunity to hear key insights from both pieces of research, reflect on what they mean for policy and public debate, and discuss the implications for efforts to build a fairer and more sustainable economy in Scotland.
The session will explore:
- How people in Scotland understand wealth inequality
- Public attitudes towards taxing wealth and council tax reform
- What drives support for progressive taxation
- What are the key pressures on Scotland’s stretched public finances
- How can Scotland make best use of its devolved tax powers to support a just transition
- What these findings mean for policy, advocacy and future reform
This event will be of interest to policymakers, civil society organisations, researchers, campaigners and anyone interested in economic justice and the future of taxation in Scotland.
This event will be hosted in partnership with Tax Justice Scotland and the Wellbeing Economy Strategy Group.
