Pen and Stu - an evening of Modern Folk with pie and pea supper

The Wesley Centre, Malton are delighted to present the first of what we hope will become a series of musical evenings with supper.

Pen and Stu are a modern folk duo. They play original, contemporary folk - with BIG whistles and tenor guitars and an assortment of other instruments.  Their songs, written by Pen and arranged by Stu, tell stories of famous characters from history and folklore: heroes, villains and pirate queens.  Their show includes wonderful traditional and original tunes and songs, and some unreleased tracks alongside favourite folk covers.

They released their album, ‘Ravenswood’ in 2024.  Folk magazine FATEA said... 

"..there's no doubt folk audiences will be setting sail to the addictive rhythm no sooner than the opening notes begin. These songs, performed at festivals, will have audiences tapping toes, clapping hands and stomping their feet, some may also feel compelled to get up and dance"

Pen and Stu were Folkscape Live artist of the month for March 2024 and inaugural performers in the Folkscape Live "The Black Box"

Simply Folk Magazine (Jan/Feb 2025) had Pen and Stu as a featured artist, and Pen has subsequently written an article about the low tin whistle for this publication.  Their low whistle instrumental album 'highland sky' was released in March 2025.

They have just returned from the Durham Fringe Festival 2026 where they played a three night run of their new show ‘Heroes and Villains – A Musical Journey’.

Drinks will be available from our licensed bar from 7pm and throughout the evening.
