Five to Thrive and Trauma Recovery

This training is open to member organisations of the Wiltshire Children and Families Voluntary Sector Forum.

Humans are born to connect and care. Right from our first breath, every human being needs safe connection with people who care about us and can themselves self regulate i.e. caregivers. Five to Thrive describes the neurobiological sequence of activity that caregivers produce whenever they meet this need for connection in others. This universal need for safe connection is the foundation of relational practice.

Humans are also born to disconnect and survive. When this happens, we have recovery needs. When these needs aren’t or can’t be met, we are left with trauma. But we can always recover from trauma. KCA's Trauma Recovery model identifies how trauma impacts human functioning in three key ways, and how connected Five to Thrive interactions support three phases of recovery.
