In the second of six talks in the Leadership in Design series, David Keech will be exploring the role of design leaders as thought leaders within the industry, staying abreast of emerging trends and driving thought leadership initiatives through speaking engagements, publications, and industry involvement..
David Keech graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1989, and studied under, and later worked for Sir Eduardo Paolozzi.
He was an Associate at Foster & Partners, joining in 1990 as a member of the Bilbao Metro project team. He was one of the first members of F&P's in-house product design team, gaining experience in architecture, industrial design and interiors, and working closely with Norman Foster on numerous projects.
In 2002 he became the first non-Japanese designer to join Yamaha's in-house creative team, and produced a number of ground-breaking designs for their music equipment and consumer product sectors whilst living and working in Hamamatsu, Japan. He was a key force in the internationalisation of Yamaha's design team.
Returning to the UK in 2005, David founded Keechdesign, a multidisciplinary design and communications agency based in London. Keechdesign supports global brands operating in industries such as consumer product, business equipment, wearable tech, music, automotive and construction. The company has an international client base having offices in both London and Tokyo.
David has led numerous projects as a Visiting Tutor at the Royal College of Art, Visiting Project Leader at KLC School of Design and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
David is also a jazz trombonist, jazz promoter and is an endorsing artist for King trombones. His debut album 'Tokyo' is due to be released this year.

The West Dean Professional Knowledge Network events are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The event fee covers access to the live event.
Refunds and cancellations
Refunds will not be offered for cancelled orders or non-attendance. We reserve the right to cancel an event in unusual circumstances. We try to avoid this where possible, but sometimes it is unavoidable. In this situation, a full refund of the fee for the cancelled event.
Access
Access to the live event is by Zoom. You will be sent the unique joining link to the event by email after a ticket has been purchased. Upon purchasing a Membership, you will receive an email with your Membership Code. This Code will allow you to book your free tickets to the individual events in the series. Please note that a Membership is not a ticket and you will still need to book individual events, in order to receive the Zoom link for the events. If you do not receive these joining links, please contact events@klc.co.uk. We recommend testing your connection to Zoom before the live event. The events are not recorded and will start at the designated time. Please ensure you have installed the latest software version of Microsoft Teams and enabled the correct settings on your device before accessing the live event.
