Liberate yourself from what holds you back
The point of being a Buddhist is to free ourselves from whatever keeps us trapped in a mundane and repetitive cycle. Scrolling endlessly without paying attention. Replaying a conversation in our mind. Repeating the same unhelpful behaviour again and again. But how do we liberate ourselves - and what does real freedom mean?
In this 6-week course (running 16 June-21 July), we explore what are known in Buddhism as the 'three fetters', approaches that prevent us from reaching our full potential. What are they?
- fixed view of self (or habit)
- doubt and indecision (or vagueness)
- following rituals for their own end (or superficiality)
We take a good look at these obstacles and see how they play out in our lives, both individually and collectively. Once we get a sense of what is there, we explore ways in which we can loosen and eventually break them.
Participants will receive the book A Taste of Freedom by Sangharakshita as part of the course.
