Connect West - Autumn meet-up

Connect West's autumn meet-up will be held at University of Bristol's new Sloane Robinson Building. It will have officially opened in time for us to gather on the morning of Tuesday 6 Oct. It's hoped that we'll get a tour of the building after our meeting.

Our young people: an innovation opportunity

In addition to our usual round-up of news, calls for help and humble brags, our discussions will centre on young people and their potential to drive the economy, not merely by filling entry-level jobs, but by their co-creation of what it means to innovate.

Many businesses aspire to engage with the region's home-grown talent pipeline, be that school leavers, FE college students, university graduates and those that fall out of education. Some successfully recruit from these sources while others struggle to find the help they need to attract and develop young people. 

At our Summer meet-up in June, Mark Neild touched upon this subject and recommended Mariana Mazzucato’s book, The Common Good Economy: A New Compass. As Associate Professor of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at University of Bristol, Mark has helped young founders to meet up, dream big and eventually, spin out. Building on his excellent Substack article, Mark will guide our discussion to consider our role in helping the 1 million young people (NEET and others) searching for their first career opportunity.
