Substance – Beyond design

A talk by two independent design studios who set out to change the way things are.

Design has the ability to influence, inform, shift perspectives and change behaviour. We’re pleased to welcome Barrington Reeves, Founder of Too Gallus and Pali Palavathanan, Founder of TEMPLO to the stage at Bristol Beacon’s Lantern Theatre on July 2nd 2025.

Both studios are not only known for their beautiful, award-winning work, but for their belief in using their role and creativity within the design industry to raise awareness, challenge the way things are, shift perspectives and drive vital change. Substance is a celebration of two designers driven by a deep desire to change our industry and society as a whole. 

Join us for an evening that will challenge your perception of what design can and should achieve in a world looking for meaningful intervention.

As a Community Interest Company, we want to use our platform to support anyone who is struggling to access a career in design. What time should I get there?

Doors open 6.00pm. Talk starts 7pm. Come early, grab a drink, and make the most of your evening – Simon's Bar will be open from 6.00pm and again after the talk.

Event Accessibility

We believe that everyone should be free to fully enjoy our event, whatever their communication needs. If you require a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter at this event, please get in touch and let us know by the 2nd June.

Information on tickets

Please ensure you use the correct email address. You will be emailed your ticket and you‘ll need to show proof on the night door, either as a print-out or on your phone/device.

We cannot refund or exchange tickets. We only refund tickets if the event gets cancelled.

We often photograph WEDF events – please let us know if you'd prefer not to be photographed.
