Infection Prevention & Control Training for Cleaning Leads in Care Settings

West Sussex County Council is pleased to offer a free, half-day Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training event for cleaning leads across all care settings, delivered by a specialist IPC practitioner. Lunch is included.

This session is specifically designed for Head Housekeepers, Heads of Cleaning, cleaning supervisors, or cleaners who are IPC Champions with responsibility for cleaning and environmental hygiene within care settings. All care-setting cleaners are welcome to attend.

As we move into respiratory virus, influenza and gastrointestinal illness season, effective cleaning and environmental hygiene are more important than ever. This practical, supportive session will focus on strengthening confidence, consistency, and compliance in everyday cleaning practice, while aligning with national guidance and support you with CQC regulatory expectations.

The training will cover:

• Cleaning objectives and the role of environmental hygiene in infection prevention
• What to do in an outbreak
• Cleaning products: what to use, when to use them and how to use them safely
• Correct preparation of cleaning solutions
• COSHH requirements and safe handling of chemicals
• Appropriate use of PPE
• National colour-coding systems
• National cleaning standards and best practice in care settings

There will also be time for discussion, questions and shared learning, offering a valuable opportunity to meet other cleaning leads and colleagues, share experiences, and raise any challenges or concerns faced within your setting.

This is a free event, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch will be provided.

If you book a place and later find you are unable to attend, we kindly ask for at least two weeks’ notice, so the place can be offered to another service.

This is a proactive opportunity to strengthen cleaning practice, support staff, and help protect residents, service users and colleagues during the winter season.
