This is an open opportunity for colleagues working or volunteering in Leeds to take time out to reflect on their experiences of 'Work Life Balance’ and what it means to each of us.

Schwartz Rounds provide a confidential and structured space where staff and volunteers, clinical and non-clinical, can come together to reflect on the emotional impact of working in health and care. Evidence shows that people who attend Rounds may feel less stressed and isolated, with increased insight and appreciation for each other’s roles.

Attending a Schwartz Round is also attributed as part of your CPD. If you are interested in obtaining one of these certificates, please select this as part of your sign-up. Following attendance to the Round and completion of the evaluation form, a certificate will be emailed to you.

Outline of what to expect:

12:15pm: The virtual Microsoft Teams room will open please ensure you join at this time. The next 15 minutes are to be used as quiet time, during which you are encouraged to minimise the distractions from your busy work, make a drink and stretch your legs before the Schwartz Round commences promptly at 12:30pm. Please feel free to keep your camera off and ensure that your mic is also on mute.

12:30pm: The Schwartz Round will commence promptly, and the facilitators will explain more about what to expect.

NB Entry to the Round will not be allowed after 12:30pm as the virtual room will be locked and not re-opened until the Round ends. No exceptions will be made as this ensures that the space stays fully confidential and minimises any distractions.

Storytellers: You will hear stories from up to 3 local staff or volunteers whose experiences touch on the theme, and you may find that their stories resonate with you and may help you to work through your own experiences.

Whole group reflections: The facilitators will let you know when you can share your reflections should you wish to. Contributing to the Round is optional, you may prefer to simply listen to the stories and reflections of others.

Please note that the stories heard or the group reflections may bring up various emotions for you, if this happens, please make sure you take time to look after yourself during the Round and after it ends.

The purpose of Rounds is to understand the challenges and rewards that come from working or volunteering within health and social care, it is not to solve problems or to focus on the clinical aspects of patient care.

We ask that all those attending the Round agree to uphold confidentiality of all participants, as well as the stories and reflections shared.

13:30pm: Round will close.

13:30pm - 13:45pm: During this time you will be encouraged to complete a short 3-mintue evaluation form. This time is also designed to help you process any thoughts or feelings you may have following the Round, before going into the next part of your day.

Following sign up, you will receive a e-ticket which will include the link to the Microsoft Teams invite. This will direct you to a webpage and then re-direct back to the Microsoft Teams meeting. Additionally, our Schwartz Admin will be in touch 24 hours before the Round with a reminder and meeting link. This link will not be different to the link on the invite but will act as a reminder.

Please note, by signing up for this event you will automatically be added to our Leeds Schwartz Mailing list to keep you up to date with all the Schwartz Round and events that will be ran within Leeds. If you do not wish to be part of the mailing list, please email c.sibanda3@nhs.net to be removed.
