About the Activity

Gather with Nyaniso Dzedze for three joyful, high-energy storytelling sessions for children at Whitby Library.

Read to the Beat weaves together spoken word, rhythm & reading in a way that makes stories come alive in the room. Each session is playful & participatory; children read aloud, respond to the text, move with the rhythm & make the story theirs. Nyaniso brings a gift for connecting with young audiences & a deep belief in the power of reading as a physical, communal & genuinely exciting act.

Sessions are designed for all reading abilities; confident readers & those still finding their feet are equally at home here.

Part of Whitby Gathers, a free summer arts programme across Whitby & surrounding villages, supported by Arts Council England.

About the Facilitator

Nyaniso Dzedze is a South African performer, writer & storyteller (best known for his lead role in Beyonce's 'Black is King') whose work draws on African oral traditions to create participatory, movement-based experiences for young audiences. He combines theatre, music & storytelling to bring personal & communal narratives into shared creative spaces; making work that is energetic, rooted & genuinely memorable for the children who take part.
