Suntou Susso brings his seven-piece band to Fylingdales Village Hall for the closing night of Whitby Gathers 2026.

Born into the 700-year-old Griot tradition of the Mandinka people of The Gambia, Suntou is one of the world's most accomplished kora players; a musician whose live performances carry the full weight of that inheritance & the unmistakable energy of someone who has spent a lifetime making rooms feel it. His 2026 International Songwriting Competition win in the World Music category & two Gold Medals at the Global Music Awards add to a career that has taken him to Glastonbury, WOMAD & Green Man, & into collaboration with Vieux Farka Touré, Youssou N'Dour & This is the Kit.

The Fylingdales Folk Choir open the evening, an acappella choir based in Robin Hood's Bay, formed in 2018 & led by Gillian Edwards. Singing traditional & contemporary folk, blues & gospel in four-part harmony, the choir has built a reputation across the region for the warmth & vibrancy of their sound.

This is the final event of Whitby Gathers 2026 & the culmination of three weeks of making, gathering & connecting across Whitby & the surrounding villages. Book your tickets now!
