About the Activity
Gather with Sand in Your Eye on Whitby Beach for a series of turtle-making sessions; creating together a whole bale of turtles in the sand.
Each session runs across an hour; beginning with a 15-minute demonstration from Jamie Wardley before families get their hands in the sand to shape their own turtle together. You shovel a mound for the shell, carve it into shape, sculpt the head and flippers, and — most importantly — give your turtle a name. Sessions run at 11:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30. By the end of the day, a whole bale of turtles will have taken shape on the beach.
Sessions are open to families with children of all ages; children must be accompanied by an adult. No booking required — just turn up for whichever session suits you.
Part of Whitby Gathers, a free summer arts programme across Whitby & surrounding villages, supported by Arts Council England.
What to Bring
Wear shoes you don't mind getting sandy, especially if you plan to help with the shovelling. Bring a bucket and spade if you have them — tools are provided if not. Sunscreen and water recommended.
