Tango Nuevo Weekender

We're returning to the Riley Smith Hall in Tadcaster for a whole weekend of dancing. We'll be running three streams of workshop for beginner, improver/intermediate and advanced dancers, and then coming together over two alternative milongas where you can put your moves to the test.

The Riley Smith Hall boasts a stunning ballroom with a sprung dancefloor - a delight to dance on!

The classes are role-balanced as far as possible to minimise the need for people to stand around waiting for their turn to dance. It's not mandatory to attend all of the classes on your ticket - so though roles are balanced at the time of booking, there may not be 100% balance in all of the classes. Our teachers will be asked to rotate partners frequently so that everybody gets a chance to dance. 

Tickets

Saturday Basics (beginner level)

Classes for this ticket will start at 12 noon on Saturday 7th September

This ticket is suitable for absolute beginners as well as more experienced dancers who want to refine their basics.

You’ll have access to three bespoke workshops  which will take you through a detailed look at the basics of embrace, walking, ochos and crosses. Opportunity to practice your moves will be available between each session.

Numbers will be limited to keep the class size small, meaning you’re guaranteed individual feedback throughout the workshops. By the end of the day, you’ll have enough in your toolkit to get you around the dancefloor in a milonga.

The Saturday evening class and milonga is also included in your ticket, to give you a chance to put it all into practice at the end of the day!

Ticket price: £60pp (£100 for 2 tickets when you book with a dance partner)

Weekend Pass (improver/ intermediate dancers)

Suitable for those with some experience of tango. With this ticket, you’ll have access to everything in the main hall.

On Saturday:

There will be 4 tango workshops with practica time between sessions where your teachers will be on hand to answer any questions.

In the evening there will be a short Chacerera (argentine folk dance) class to warm you up for the milonga. Then it’s 3.5 hours of glorious alternative tango milonga with music from your favourite nuevo DJs.

On Sunday:

You’ll have another three workshops, leading up to the afternoon alt tango milonga.

Ticket prices:

• £100 (£190 for 2 tickets when you book with a dance partner)

• Saturday only: £60 (£100 for 2 tickets when you book with a dance partner)

• Sunday only: £60 (£100 for 2 tickets when you book with a dance partner)

Weekend Plus pass (Advanced dancers)

These tickets are only available to those who are booking with a partner.  If you're struggling to find a booking partner, then please get in touch, and we can ask around for you.

With this ticket, you’ll have access to everything in the main hall on Saturday:

• 4 tango workshops with plenty of practica time in between sessions.

• Pre-milonga class

• Alternative/ nuevo milonga

On Sunday you’ll get:

• Access to two advanced level classes

• Pre-tea dance class

• Afternoon tea dance 

We’re limiting these passes to a maximum of 10 couples so that you’ll have plenty of opportunity for individual feedback during the 'special edition' sessions.  These tickets are only available if you book with a partner, as it's more likely that couples may choose not to swap partners during these lessons.

Ticket prices:

This pass is only available if you book as a leader/follower pair*: £200

‘Sunday only’ plus passes may be released a month before the event, but only if there are still spaces available (£110)

Milonga only tickets

If you can't make the classes, there's no need to miss out on the entire weekend.  Anybody is welcome to attend our milongas, tickets will be available on the door, and you don't need a partner!

We're a relaxed, friendly bunch. There's no expectation to dance in tandas, nor do we insist on cabaceo when asking for a dance. We're happy for you to swap roles during the milongas, including those who have booked specifically as 'leaders' or 'followers' during the day time.  Feel free to ask for dances with whomever and however you choose!

Ticket prices:

• £15 - Saturday milonga and pre- milonga class

• £15 - Sunday milonga and pre-milonga class

• £25 - Both milongas / pre-milonga classes.

Eating and Drinking

Unfortunately the Riley Smith Hall no longer offer catering.  We'll provide hot drinks and cakes during the day, but you'll need to bring your own lunch / pop out to the local Cooplands / Sainsbury's for supplies.  Similarly, there are limited choices available in Tadcaster for dinner, so you may prefer to travel out of Tadcaster for dinner (Leeds, York, Wetherby, Boston Spa are all close by) if Italian food / the local craft beer/pizza place isn't your thing.

Accommodation

We do not offer accommodation as part of this event.

Tadcaster is quite a small place, but if you can’t find anything suitable there, both Leeds and York have plenty of options and are just a 20 minute drive away.

Refund and cancellation policy

In the event that the weekend is cancelled, the ticket holder will be contacted using the email address used to book the tickets and will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to defer their tickets to the next event.

You have the right to cancel your ticket and receive a refund (less a 25% non-refundable deposit) to and including Sunday 18th August 2024.

Cancellation after this date will be at the discretion of the organisers.

Transfer of tickets to others

• If you are buying a ticket from someone who is no longer able to attend, please check with us first (whiterosetango@gmail.com) so that we can ensure that the ticket is genuine. There have been past instances of people trying to sell fake tickets.
