Join us to meet others, be better informed and more empowered in your health care brought to you by Macmillan Cancer Support, Whittington Health NHS Trust and North Central London Cancer Alliance.
About the event:
The Macmillan Service at the Whittington Health NHS Trust, in partnership with OUTpatients, the LGBTIQ+ cancer charity, and Wake the Beast Theatre Company, invites LGBTQIA+ people, patients, family and friends to a free event on Saturday, May 17th, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Queer Britain Museum in London.
This special event will offer talks from experts, wellness sessions, and a live theatre performance focused on the LGBTQIA+ experience in healthcare created using the stories of real people. Attendees will also have the chance to connect with others, share experiences, and gain valuable insights.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and guests will enjoy a private view of the Queer Britain Museum, the UK's first LGBTQIA+ museum, at 6:00 PM.

What to expect:
Expert led talks: insightful talks by experts from within the LGBTQIA+ community. These professionals will provide valuable information on health, cancer care, and well-being, with a specific focus on the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ people in the healthcare system. The aim is to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to better navigate their care and advocate for themselves.
Interactive workshop: exploring the impact of cancer and its effects on sexual wellbeing, relationships and self-image.
Live theatre performance: a moving and thought-provoking performance by Wake the Beast Theatre Company exploring the personal stories and struggles of LGBTQIA+ individuals as they engage with the healthcare system. The performance will shed light on the unique difficulties faced by this community, offering a powerful space for dialogue and understanding using the stories and words of real people.
Laughter Yoga: For those looking to de-stress and experience joy, there will be a laughter yoga session—a fun and uplifting activity that combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing techniques. It’s a chance to connect with others while promoting relaxation and overall well-being.
Networking and Support: A chance to meet others with shared experiences.
Refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon, with a special drinks reception at 6:00 PM. At this time, attendees can also enjoy a private viewing of the Queer Britain Museum, the first and only LGBTQIA+ museum in the UK, offering a chance to immerse themselves in the rich cultural history of the LGBTQIA+ community.
