Sun 14 Dec 2025 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM
The Opera Barn, Layer Marney Tower, CO5 9US
Description
George Frideric Handel Messiah
Sunday 14 December 2025
After two sell-out performances, Wild Arts return to the opera barn at Layer Marney Tower for a third annual Messiah. Our star singers bring the music and story to life, and this time will sing both solos and choruses from memory. The specialist period players of the Wild Arts Ensemble will play on natural trumpets, gut strings, baroque bows and calfskin timps.
Tickets will go on sale to Friends of Wild Arts on Monday 16th December 2024, and to the general public on 1st March 2025.
Doors will open at 3pm, and the performance will begin at 4pm, with a 20 minute interval. The performance should finish by 6.30pm.
Our hosts Nick and Sheila Charrington and the Wild Arts team invite anyone who is a Friend of Wild Arts or who is interested in becoming one, to join us at the end of the performance for a glass or two of fizz in the beautiful Long Gallery.
Tickets £65 | £45 | £35
This year we have added fourteen £125 Supporter seats. We love performing the Messiah in the beautiful barn at Layer Marney, toasty warm with its underfloor heating. However, in bringing this scale of performance (and these world-class performers) to such an intimate venue, we are not able to cover our costs without some additional support. These supporter seats will include not only front row seats, but also a complimentary cup of mulled wine, mince pies, and some fizz after the show.
The 2024 performance sold out many months before the performance, so do book your seats early.
Because of the winter weather, we can only park on the hard gravel. There is only room for 60 cars, so we need everyone to please car-share. We're very happy to help organise this - please get in touch via info@wildarts.org.uk. We will organise a minibus, possibly from Colchester or Chelmsford if necessary to get you all there and back safely. We hugely appreciate your help in this matter - we don't want any cars bogged down in the field!
The opera barn, picnic lawn and loos at Layer Marney Tower are fully accessible. The seating in the opera barn is flexible and we can accommodate wheelchairs easily - please book in the aisles and on the entrance side if possible. We will reserve parking places for blue badge holders by the entrance through to the opera courtyard. Please email us at info@wildarts.org.uk for any further access or seating questions and we'd be very happy to help.
We would like to share the music and drama in real life with you all, and so we don't allow any photographs or filming in any of our performances. It is not possible for the performers to concentrate and communicate to a live audience while someone is filming, and it is also distracting for fellow audience members. Thank you very much.
