Halloween Nature Detectives
Fri 30th October, 1.30pm - 3.15pm

A spooky nature play session for families with children aged between 3 and 10 years*. Come and explore Rose Cottage garden at Harnham Water Meadows and take part in fun and creative hands-on activities and toast snacks on a campfire.

This session we will be making some fun props for Halloween, including spider webs and magic wands.

We'll be mixing up magic potions and looking for our own special natural potion ingredients around the garden.

We’ll be learning about how bats echolocate with a fun bat-moth game.

We will finish with a campfire, on which children can cook toast and marshmallows.

Children can dip in and out of whatever activities they choose to do. Activities on offer will include:

  • Bug hunting

  • Eco craft activities

  • Potion mixing

  • Chalk drawing

  • Nature-themed toys

  • Games

  • Cooking toast and marshmallows on a campfire

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
*Older siblings are welcome to come and join in too. No charge for siblings under 3 years.

What to bring

  • Drinks and snacks for your afternoon. Bread and marshmallows will be provided.
  • Wellies are the best footwear.
  • We hope to be outside for the whole session, so bring suitable layers, sun protection and waterproofs if there is a chance of rain. We will use the indoor space for activities if it is very wet.
  • Guide dogs are welcome but no other dogs please.

Cost:

  • Standard ticket £10 per child
  • Supporter ticket £12 per child (for those who are happy to pay a little more to subsidise a place for those who can’t afford to pay the standard price)**
  • Or pay what you feel

**The idea behind 'pay it forward' systems like this is to do acts of kindness which will have a positive effect on others, and in return the recipients are just asked to pass on the good deed to keep the cycle going.
